Texas BBQ
Yesterday was Lilly's birthday, so to celebrate we went to lunch at Rudy's, a barbecue joint just outside El Paso. Actually, it was probably more for Marie and I, if Lilly had her way we would have gone to McDonald's and got some McNuggets. Anyways we've been looking for some good barbecue around here (tried the Famous Dave's, just doesn't cut it), and we think we may have found a keeper. The problem is we compare everything to Bussey's, in Vinita, Oklahoma (we used to eat at the one in Miami, but it closed down). While not quite Bussey's, Rudy's was still pretty good. Marie had the turkey and I had the chopped brisket. The turkey was delicious, and I will likely get that on our next visit. I read a few reviews before we headed down there, and for the most part they were favorable. Some were not, but they seemed to come from people who have no idea what a good barbecue place is all about. One commented that if she "wanted dinner in a basket, I would have gone to Dairy Queen." Hello, it's barbecue. That's how it's supposed to be served. Just slap it on some butcher paper and call it good. And the sauce was very good; enough to prompt us to buy a bottle and bring it home. Anyways it was fun and we will definetely be going back for more...
